How to setup the Atem Television Studio.

I will show you my way of setup my Atem Switcher with the Mac and Black Magic Software, as well the usage of mobile devices, like IPAD and iPhone, using some great apps. The apps I use is the Strata Lite and Strata View, as well the Touch Director from Live Skills.

I will describe 3 methods to connect the Atem Switcher.

1. Connect via Mac (mini), the Atem Software, Ipad and a wireless switcher
2. Connect via Ipad and wireless switcher
3. Ipad connected directly via ethernet.

The first solution provides the most options, like adding lower graphics, graphics and so on. These will be chosen in the software, and all files are on the harddrive of the Mac (or other).

For all devices to communicate, they must share the same IP address subnet, which typically means the first 3 fields in the IP address need to be the same. Each device must also use a unique IP address.

Please remember to set all devices to the correct IP address so they can all communicate.

You will need to set the IP address of the ATEM switcher via USB using Blackmagic ATEM Setup. You will need to set the DHCP or fixed IP mode on the ATEM Broadcast Panel and if using a fixed IP address on the panel, set the IP address on the panel. You will also need to set the panel’s ‘switcher address’ to the new IP address you have just set for the switcher.

Here beneath my setup.

Network all devices.

First of all, we need to have a look at the IT-configuration and setup. My setup is as follow. In this case I will not use a internet connection, so the gateway can be empty. Ipad and Iphones (or other tablets) has to be in the same wireless network. The Atem and my Mini Mac are connected by UTP.

IPAD directly by UTP.

When using the following method, the IPAD directly connected via a lightning > ethernet adaptor, you’ll need a different approach.

Here the IPAD is connected via an ethernet connection. The IP address I found and is usable is 192.168.10.10

When using the IPAD as a standalone switcher, you can’t use the options to start video or add graphics. There for you’ll need a pc or Mac for it.

I noticed that the sound of all camera’s can be adjust in the app of Touch Director.

Tip: 

Try first, then use. Learn about IP-adres setup. And test all you equipment and make screenshots of every setting.

1. Start with the software, first connect the switcher and the wireless router at the PC, Mac.
2. Setup the switcher first withe the desired adress (192.168.10.240 is default, connect the USB cable PC/Mac to switcher)
3. Start up the ATEM switcher software, fill in the IP address of the switcher.
4. Test if camera's switching.

And when that connection works, then start with the mobile devices.

I always will download the newest software, and also the manuals, and save it on the device which has the software installed on it. And also a short document with the settings that worked while I tested it all.
